I’ve been working a few longer days in the run up to Christmas to make some long overdue changes to this website and the way I share my thoughts.
The most visible change is the domain and branding – I’m no longer Friendly Digital, but Will Callaghan.
There’s a couple of reasons for this change. The first is, despite early dreams of founding a small digital agency, I’m probably always going to remain a one person company.

I love being self employed and (for the most part) being able to explore my interests, but I don’t enjoy paperwork or chasing the next job. So I think being on my own suits me.
The second reason is the realisation that I’ve got maybe 10 to 15 years of working life left. There’s a few more collaborative projects I’d like to do in that time, so I really need to be more open and blog more of my thoughts. Having my name on this site ought to help.
This new improved site will be about what I’m interested in now: collaboration, trust, and having to do more with less in the public sector.
It’s a well used cliche that digital work is as much about people as it is technology. If I’ve learned anything in almost 30 years of working life, it’s that great things are possible if you get products and ways of working right – LocalGov Drupal is the best example of my career so far.
The reverse is also true. Without trust, collaboration and everyone pulling in the same direction, the most worthy projects fall apart. As a third of English councils take the plunge with Local Government Reorgnisation and Devolution, people need to pull together more than ever.
